A strategic review
- arts and culture in a changing Auckland
In 2019, the trustees initiated a review of the trust’s work and the sector’s needs. Some key strategic issues were identified. These included:
The acknowledgement of toi Māori the foundation of the region’s arts
Recognition of the growth of thriving arts communities from the 17 Moana Oceania communities on the isthmus
The growing ethnic diversity of Tāmaki Makaurau since the trust was founded in 2001
The rise of social media
The complex ecosystem of artists, arts organisations, funders, policy makers
The persistence of long-standings issues such as the sustainability of creative careers, inequity in funding, and under-investment in sector governance and leadership development.
