A strategic review

- arts and culture in a changing Auckland

In 2019, the trustees initiated a review of the trust’s work and the sector’s needs. Some key strategic issues were identified. These included:

  • The acknowledgement of toi Māori the foundation of the region’s arts

  • Recognition of the growth of thriving arts communities from the 17 Moana Oceania communities on the isthmus

  • The growing ethnic diversity of Tāmaki Makaurau since the trust was founded in 2001

  • The rise of social media

  • The complex ecosystem of artists, arts organisations, funders, policy makers

  • The persistence of long-standings issues such as the sustainability of creative careers, inequity in funding, and under-investment in sector governance and leadership development.
