Auckland Council is a major funder of arts and culture in Tamaki Makaurau. In 2015, Council developed Toi Whītiki, a strategic plan for growing arts and culture in the city. In 2020/2021, Council began a review of Toi Whītiki to assess the current state of the city’s arts and culture sector, the impact of COVID-19, and what was needed to ‘build back better’.
Council partnered with Te Taumata to engage the sector to help inform the overall approach and scope of work for reimagining Toi Whītiki. This report summarises the findings from five facilitated kōrero with rōpu of sector strategic and creative thinkers, change-makers and innovators.
Following sector feedback, Council has determined that a sector strategy, developed in collaboration with the creative sector, is the best approach for the redevelopment of Toi Whītiki.
